Application
Ambient air temperature

Temperature limits for adhesive application: At least +5 °C (+41 °F)

Support temperature

Temperature limits for adhesive application: At least +5 °C (+41 °F)

Types of support
  • Concrete, lightweight concrete, brick, plasters.
  • Wooden panels, OSB boards.
  • Fiber cement boards.
  • Old bitumen.
  • Mineral fiber boards with compressive strength and suitable surface for bonding.
  • PUR/PIR thermal insulation boards with laminated contact surface (with aluminium, glass fiber or mineral fibres).
  • Polyester (requires thermal activation), hard PVC.
  • Galvanized steel, aluminium, chrome-nickel steel.
Hardening time

The required strength of the bonded surface is obtained immediately. Final strengths are obtained after one week, depending on temperature and relative humidity.

Consumption

The consumption depends on the roughness of the support layer and is between 300–500 g/m2 on non-absorbent surfaces and 1000 g/m2 for highly absorbent surfaces.

SUPPORT QUALITY

The support layer must have sufficient strength to withstand the forces generated by wind suction.

PREPARATION OF THE SUPPORT

The substrate surface must be solvent resistant, clean, dry, free of contaminants such as oils, grease or other existing coatings or treatments, etc. Metal surfaces shall be cleaned with solvent T 660 before applying the adhesive.

APPLICATION

Application instructions

Based on the valid installation instructions of the waterproofing membrane used.

general information

Sarnacol® T-660 must be mixed well and carefully before use. When application is interrupted for a longer period, close the container. Sarnacol® T-660 can be diluted with Solvent T 660 to change the viscosity. To remove traces of glue from the surfaces of the membranes, use Solvent T 660.

General principles for soldering (contact soldering)

The adhesive must be applied evenly on the support layer, preferably using a stencil. Do not apply the adhesive to a larger area that cannot be covered in one day. Allow the glue to dry completely. The evaporation time is a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 10 hours. Apply two coats of adhesive to the absorbent pads (the first coat must be completely dry before applying the next coat). Apply the adhesive evenly, including on the underside of the roof membrane, using a stencil (no adhesive will be applied to the areas where the membrane is to be heat-welded). Once the adhesive has evaporated sufficiently and the surface is no longer sticky (test with your finger after approx. 30 min), position, straighten and stick the membrane by pressing well with a roller. The time required for evaporation depends on the temperature and humidity of the air, the condition of the substrate and the amount of adhesive.

Hot air surface activation:

After bonding, adhesion is generally improved if the membrane surface is heated. Therefore, the surface of the membrane is heated with an external heat source (Sarnafil® hot air gun) and immediately pressed with a roller. Avoid prolonged heating of the membrane (the surface becomes glossy), especially in heat-welded overlap areas.

CLEANING OF TOOLS

Tools and equipment should be cleaned immediately after use with Solvent T 660.
