PREPARATION OF THE SUPPORT The substrate must be solid, clean, dry and free of any contaminants such as dirt, oil, grease, cement laitance, old sealants and layers of paint that could affect the adhesion of the adhesive. Sikaflex®-117 Metal Force adheres without primers and/or activators. However, for optimal adhesion and critical, high-performance applications, the following priming and/or pretreatment procedures must be followed: Non-porous substrates Aluminium, anodised aluminium, stainless steel, galvanized steel, electrostatically polished metals or glazed tiles, lightly roughen the surface with a fine abrasive pad. Clean and pre-treat using Sika® Aktivator-205 applied with a clean cloth. Allow > 15 minutes (< 6 hours) before gluing / sealing. Other metals such as copper, brass or titanium-zinc, clean and pre-treat using Sika® Aktivator-205 applied with a clean cloth. After a waiting time of > 15 minutes (< 6 hours). Apply Sika® Primer-3 N with a brush. Allow an additional waiting time of > 30 minutes (< 8 hours) before bonding / sealing. The PVC must be cleaned, and pre-treated with Sika® Primer-215 applied by brush. Allow a waiting time of > 15 minutes (< 8 hours) before bonding / sealing. Porous substrates Surfaces made of concrete, aerated concrete and cement-based plasters, mortars and bricks, are primed with Sika® Primer-3 N applied with a brush. Before gluing / sealing, allow a waiting time of > 30 minutes (< 8 hours). For more detailed advice and instructions, contact Sika Romania Technical Service. Note: Primers are adhesion promoters and not an alternative to improve improper preparation / cleaning of joint surfaces. Primers also improve the long-term bond performance of a sealed joint. CLEANING OF TOOLS Clean all application tools and equipment immediately after use with Sika® Remover-208. Once hardened, the material can only be removed mechanically. To clean the skin use Sika® Cleaning Wipes-100. |
