PREPARATION OF THE SUPPORT

The substrate must be clean and dry, homogeneous, without oil or grease, without dust or friable particles. Cement laitance and other friable parts must be removed by sandblasting, grinding or brushing.

Sikaflex®-118 Extreme Grab generally has very good adhesion without primers/activators on most dry, clean and solid substrates. For optimal adhesion, high performance applications, for high stress on the joint, it is necessary to use primers and cleaning products as follows:

Non-porous substrates Aluminum, anodized aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, metal surfaces covered with powders (anodized) must be cleaned with an abrasive cloth after which it is recommended to apply the activator Sika®Aktivator-205 using a clean tissue or cloth. Allow approx. 15 min (max. 6 hours) to pass before gluing/sealing begins. Metal surfaces such as copper, brass, titanium-zinc must be cleaned and treated with Sika®Aktivator-205 using a clean napkin or cloth. After a waiting time of 15 min. (max. 6 hours), apply the primer Sika®Primer-3 N using a brush. Allow a minimum of 30 minutes to begin gluing/sealing (max. 8 hours). PVC surfaces must be cleaned and treated with SikaPrimer 215 applied with a brush. Allow a minimum of 15 minutes before gluing/sealing begins (max. 6 hours).

Porous substrates Concrete supports, aerated concrete, cement-based plasters, mortar, bricks, etc. they must be primed with SikaPrimer-3 N applied with a brush. Wait at least 30 minutes (max. 8 hours.) before starting gluing/sealing.

For more details, contact the Technical Service of Sika Romania.

Note:

Primers are only adhesion promoters. They do not replace proper cleaning of the surface, nor do they significantly improve its resistance. Primers improve the performance over time of a sealed joint.

CLEANING OF TOOLS

Clean all tools and application equipment immediately after use with Sika® Remover-208. Once hardened, the material can only be removed mechanically. To clean the skin use Sika® Cleaning Wipes-100.
