VAPOR DIFFUSION CONTROL LAYER

Sarnavap®-500 E is a vapor diffusion control layer, without additional support layer, based on polyethylene (PE).

Use
  • The vapor control layer (VCL) is applied over the most common types of backing layers. Substrates must be smooth, dry and strong enough to support foot traffic.
  • If the surfaces of the support layers are rough (eg damaged concrete or slope screed), apply a leveling layer before applying the Sarnavap®-500 E film or use Sarnavap® 3000M with a release layer on the underside.
  • Sarnavap®-500 E vapor control layer is used for flat roofs (for PVC systems only).
Advantages
  • It is easy and quick to assemble.
  • Remains flexible at low temperatures.
  • It does not deteriorate over time.
  • Permanent resistance to water vapor diffusion.
  • Recyclable.

SUPPORT QUALITY

Substrates must be smooth, dry and strong enough to support foot traffic.

PREPARATION OF THE SUPPORT

If the surfaces of the support layers are rough (e.g. damaged concrete or slope screed), apply a leveling layer before applying the Sarnavap®-500 E film.

APPLICATION

  1. Unroll the roll of Sarnavap®-500 E over the structural support layer and temporarily orient it into position.
  2. Roll out the next roll of Sarnavap®-500 E laying it so that the overlaps between the strips are at least 80 mm (3.15 in).
  3. Fold the upper sheet of Sarnavap®-500 E and apply the Sarnavap® Tape F (double-sided joint tape) to the lower sheet.
  4. Peel off the protective strip of the adhesive tape and carefully fold the top sheet of Sarnavap®-500 E making sure no creases form.
  5. Press the upper sheet of Sarnavap®-500 E with a pressure roller to ensure good adhesion with the Sarnavap® Tape F adhesive tape. When applying the sheet to corrugated sheet, the overlap must be made on the upper fold of the sheet, so that we can apply adequate pressure for optimal sealing of the overlaps.
  6. At transverse joints, sealing is achieved by cutting the edge of the upper sheet at 45°.
  7. In the perimeter and perforation areas, the Sarnavap®-500 E film will rise on the vertical sides and stick with Sarnatape® 20 double-adhesive tape on a smooth structure of the vertical element. Porous surfaces will first be treated with Primer 130.

Installation work must only be carried out by Sika authorized roofing membrane applicators.

Application of auxiliary products, e.g. the double-adhesive contact tape and the primer, is limited to temperatures above +5 °C (+41 °F). Please consult the technical data sheets of the respective products. For application at an ambient temperature below +5 °C (+41 °F), mandatory measures may be required due to safety requirements according to national regulations.
