Application
Ambient air temperature

+5 °C (+41 °F) min.

Support temperature

+5 °C (+41 °F) min.

SUPPORT QUALITY
  • The supporting structure must have sufficient structural strength to support all new and existing layers of roof construction, and the complete roof system must be designed and secured against wind forces.
  • The substrate must be uniform, hard, smooth and free of sharp projections or burrs, resistant to solvents, dry, free of grease, oil, bitumen, dust, sand or gravel.
PREPARATION OF THE SUPPORT
  • Use the appropriate preparation equipment to achieve the required substrate quality.
  • If there is dust on the surface, it must be completely removed before applying the product using suitable dust extraction equipment.
APPLICATION

Strictly follow the installation procedures defined in the application procedure, application manuals and work instructions which must always be adjusted to the actual site conditions.

PRIMER

Apply, where necessary, on the prepared substrate, Primer-600 at the required rate.

Alignment

Profiled metal substrates:

The layer must be placed in the direction of the folds. Where lateral/longitudinal overlaps occur, they must be fully supported by aligning the entire surface of the top fold.

overlays

Lateral/longitudinal: 75 mm (2.95 in)

End joints / T-joints: 75 mm (2.95 in)

  • To achieve effectively sealed overlaps, they must be pressed firmly with a pressure roller or by applying pressure.
  • If the joints are not closed immediately after Sarnavap®-5000 E SA FR is applied, they must be cleaned with Sika® Trocal Cleaner L-100, Sarna Cleaner or Sarnafil® T Prep. Allow the cleaning agents to evaporate completely before bonding.

Profiled metal substrates:

  • At the end of the rolled film, an additional strip of Sarnavap®-5000 E SA FR with a width of 20 cm (7.87 in) must be applied.
  • It must be positioned so that it lines up perpendicular to the direction of the folds. This provides continuous support over the folds, allowing the layers to bond completely.

pasting

Important: If Sarnavap®-5000 E SA FR is to be applied at an ambient temperature between +5 °C (+41 °F) and +10 °C (+50 °F), first heat the overlaps using hot air welding equipment before pressing them with the pressure roller. Hot air welding equipment (eg Leister Triac) should be set to ~+300 °C (+572 °F) with a speed of ~5 m/min.

  1. Check the foil alignment before gluing.
  2. Realign where necessary.
  3. At one end of the film, peel off part of the protective film from the bottom and stick this part to the substrate.
  4. Separate the protective film from the rest of the Sarnavap®-5000 E SA FR film laterally to allow it to be glued to the substrate.
  5. Press the entire surface of the applied membrane with a suitable heavy roller.
  6. For T-joints, the edges of the middle cover sheet must be cut at a 45° corner.
  7. After taping in place, use a small pressure roller to firmly press all overlaps, including the chamfers of the foil.

Details

  • All details such as inside and outside corners, parapets, vent pipes, metal supports, etc. must be cut and sealed effectively.
  • Sarnavap®-5000 E SA FR must always be attached to the warm side of the thermal insulation.
  • The upper edge of Sarnavap®-5000 E SA FR must be brought up to the upper edge/surface of the thermal insulation.

Temporary waterproofing

  • If Sarnavap®-5000 E SA FR is to provide a temporary waterproofing layer during construction (up to 4 weeks), a slope of at least 2 % (~1.1°) must be provided to ensure drainage without standing water.
  • Roof drains must be sized appropriately.
