Mortar for renovating masonry with rising moisture and defects due to salts

SikaMur® Dry is a ready-to-use product, with a high degree of water vapor diffusion, macroporous, in accordance with EN 998-1 Class R. It contains air entraining agents, aggregates and selected cements, being suitable for the treatment and rehabilitation of masonry with capillary moisture. SikaMur® Dry is intended for manual application.

Use

SikaMur® Dry is used to dehumidify wet masonry. It is particularly suitable for interior and exterior applications on the following substrates:

  • Solid bricks
  • Masonry made of broken or mixed stone
  • Calcareous masonry
  • Non-calcareous tuff blocks
Advantages
  • Special action in facilitating the evaporation of moisture retained by the masonry, due to the internal structure of the product, rich in macro and micro air bubbles connected by capillary vessels
  • It keeps the salts inside the plaster and removes milk of cement and moisture stains
  • No prior treatment for salt resistance is necessary
  • Evidence of moisture absorption
  • Excellent adhesion
  • Good workability
  • Easy application, like any other plaster mortar on masonry

System structure

SikaMur® Dry is part of the Sika® wet masonry renovation system, ideally used in combination with:
SikaMur® InjectoCream-100 Silane-based resin, horizontally injectable into masonry, which creates a barrier to stop moisture rising through capillarity in masonry
SikaMur® Finish Masonry plaster, with a high degree of diffusion, based on hydraulic binders or air entrainers with the role of finishing SikaMur® Dry or SikaMur®-1000 SP mortars
SikaMur® Color I or E Colored lime-based paint, used for finishing and protecting SikaMur® Finish in damp masonry rehabilitation systems and rising damp in masonry

Compressive strength

Salt resistance

Admitted (WTA 2-9-04/D)

Thermal conductivity

Application
Mixture ratio

2.9 – 3.4 liters of clean water for a 25 kg (55.1 lb) bag

Layer thickness

The total thickness, in 2 layers of SikaMur® Dry (adhesion layer + final layer) must be at least 20 mm (0.787 in).

Ambient air temperature

+5 °C (+41 °F) min. / +35 °C (+95 °F) max.

Support temperature

+5 °C (+41 °F) min. / +35 °C (+95 °F) max.

Lifetime of the mixture

30 minutes at 20 °C (68 °F)

Waiting Time / Recoating

To apply SikaMur® Dry on top of SikaMur® Dry, wait until the previous layer has hardened.

A minimum of 15 days drying/curing period shall be allowed before applying SikaMur® Finish over SikaMur® Dry to prevent cracking in the final finished layer

Consumption

~30 kg/m 2 for a thickness of 2 cm (0.787 in) per applied layer

shuffle

Mix a 25 kg (55.1 lb) bag of SikaMur® Dry with 2.8 – 3.4 liters of water, depending on the required workability. Mix with an electric mixer at low speed or a mini concrete mixer until you get a homogeneous, uniform, lump-free mixture with a pasty consistency.

Do not mix longer than necessary (three minutes), so that too much air does not enter the plaster.

APPLICATION

The mixture will be applied in at least 2 layers, creating a preliminary adhesion layer on which the plaster is applied. The adhesion layer must be made with mortar with a fluid consistency; the next layer of plaster must be applied on top of the adhesive layer already applied - which can thus support the weight of the mortar layer - and must be made with paste-like mortar that is applied with a trowel to obtain a straight-edged finish and is finished with wood chips.

CLEANING OF TOOLS

Clean tools immediately after use with water. Hardened material can only be cleaned by mechanical means.
